Does my supermarket need a billboard?

Supermarkets and malls are now among the most popular places to shop in developed countries. The competition is becoming increasingly fierce as the number of supermarkets and hypermarkets grows. Those that are always in the faces of customers are winning the race, and investing in advertising is no longer a debate. But how do you persuade customers to choose your store in such a crowded industry?

Supermarkets and malls are now among the most popular places to shop in developed countries. About 42% of UAE residents report going to the malls and supermarkets once or twice a week, with 13% visiting 2–5 times a week, and 7% saying they go more than five times a week. And it’s not just in the United Arab Emirates. Studies have also shown that in 2022 alone, Americans spent over $765 billion at supermarkets such as Target, Costco, and Home Depot, as well as non-chain grocery stores.

The competition is becoming increasingly fierce as the number of supermarkets and hypermarkets grows. Those that are always in the faces of customers are winning the race, and investing in advertising is no longer a debate.

But how do you persuade customers to choose your store in such a crowded industry?

Billboards!

Yes, the old-fashioned billboard is still relevant, even as supermarket competition becomes more intense. And here’s why you too should invest in billboards:

Why Billboards?

Consumers spend a significant amount of time and money shopping for everything. With thousands of supermarkets and grocery stores in the United Arab Emirates today, consumers have too many options to choose from. Supermarkets are no longer the only places where people can get their supplies anymore. Everything from meal prep services to fashion now delivers to people’s homes, which gives customers even more options for where and how they shop.

This is why you constantly need to remind customers that you exist; it’s essential to keep your brand’s name and logo in their minds!

It has been reported that 71% of drivers consciously look at billboards while driving. It directly contributes to the high CPM (cost per thousand views) of billboards. This is why most OOH (out-of-home) advertising can cost as much as $2–10, while other formats such as podcasts, television, and print can range from $6–39.

What should your ad contain?

While the specific type of content that should be included in your ad depends on the type of supermarket you own, certain elements are common and should be taken into account.

One strategy is to highlight the prices of your items. If you are having a sale on certain food items for instance, you can include those discounts on your sign along with bright and mouth-watering photos of the food.

You can also highlight various features of your supermarket. If you have a gas station, pharmacy, or convenience features such as curbside pickup, you also want to highlight them. Even though the gas station or pharmacy isn’t for your supermarket, showing your potential customers that they can do all of their shopping in one location is telling them that patronizing your business will maximize their comfort. And that is a great selling point that you should include in your ad whenever possible.

It’s also important to remember the 3-second rule, which states that you should assume your reader has only 3 seconds to process all of the information on your sign. So keep it brief and to the point!

To summarize

You must always keep your business in the minds of your target audience so that they think of you when choosing where to shop. And if you are looking to use billboards to do that for supermarkets, send us a direct email at [email protected] today to discuss which option is right for you!
